Whoever thinks scientists lead a quiet life - in their labs or offices, unaware of what goes on in the world and immune to the whims of Nature - is scientifically wrong.

Where are you now?

Every month INESC TEC sends highly qualified individuals into the market. These individuals often then go on to occupy important positions in some of the best national and international companies or they opt to form spin-offs. As the best way to perform technology transfer is through individuals, this section is dedicated to collaborators that trained at INESC TEC and now star in other companies and institutions.

Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC

As a researcher at INESC TEC, I was always involved in Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) projects where the goal was to create new platforms and solutions to help companies optimise their business processes. For instance, for Volkswagen Autoeuropa we developed an innovative platform to calculate and manage KPIs, which made it possible for them to calculate their performance indicators in a more reliable and efficient way.

After leaving INESC TEC, I embraced a new professional challenge as Business Partner of Continente Online. More recently, I started working as Product Owner at Farfetch. My main job is guaranteeing the sustainable growth of the order management platform of one of the most innovative luxury e-commerce companies.

As a researcher at INESC TEC and a PhD student, I was always challenged to create proposals for R&D projects, both nationally and at a European level. This experience, which covers the entire life cycle of a project, is very important in my current position.

Ever since I left INESC TEC, I feel that the institute has been significantly changing its international communication strategy. Moreover, I feel there has been an extra effort to show what is done at the institute to younger generations and to companies.

Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC

After I concluded my PhD, I accepted a job offer to work at Vision-Box, a company in Lisbon that develops several technological solutions mostly applied in airports. After that, I became CTO at Follow Inspiration, an R&D company that develops new products, services and integrated solutions in the fields of robotics, artificial vision and multimedia.

My experience at INESC TEC was very useful, particularly my work in the field of image processing and machine learning. Moreover, I developed a solid network of contacts.

Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC

After I completed my degree I moved to Lisbon and I worked at Accenture Portugal as a software engineer for two years. After that, I felt I wanted to work in the area I was trained, which was telecommunications and computers. So when the opportunity came to join Vodafone, I had to take it.

At Vodafone I worked in data centre infrastructures, mobile networks and virtualisation elements until I joined the R&D team.

I would say that there is a high correlation between human quality at INESC TEC and Vodafone, especially at the research unit where the environment is quite similar to what I had in Portugal. I feel that my experience at INESC TEC has helped me a lot in my training and in applying my training in my professional life.
