INESC Porto starts working on the eCAALYX project

The first meeting of the project eCAALYX - Enhanced Complete Ambient Assisted Living Experiment took place on 14 and 15 July at the facilities of the CETEMMSA Technological Centre, in Mataró, Spain.

The eCAALYX is a project of the European AAL Joint Programme in the area of Ambient Assisted Living, whose aim is to develop a system for outpatient monitoring of users with multiple chronic diseases (co-morbidity). This project is an extension of the results of Caalyx (IST FP6, 2007-2009) to a new market.

Besides INESC Porto, the following institutions are partners in this project: Fraunhofer Portugal (Portugal), CETEMMSA Technological Centre (Spain), Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo S.A. Unipersonal (Spain), Fundació Hospital Comarcal Sant Antoni Abat (Spain), University of Plymouth Enterprise Ltd (United Kingdom), TeleMedic Systems, Ltd (United Kingdom), University of Limerick (Ireland), National University of Ireland, Galway (Ireland), Corscience GmbH & Co KG (Germany) and Ev. Krankenhaus Witten gGmbH (Germany).

INESC Porto is responsible for the technical coordination, as well as for the development of an application for mobile phones used to monitor patients and a distributed monitoring platform based on observation patterns, which will be used by all participants in the project. CETEMMSA, in its turn, is the project’s administrative coordinator.

INESC Porto’s team involved in this project is set up by Ângelo Martins, Artur Rocha, Carlos Tavares and Mário Ricardo Henriques.
