When I’ve finished my Ph.D., I’ve started a research project at the University of Minho in the field of IoT which it was out of my previous research field during the Ph.D. The reason that I’ve changed my research field was that, first, I was very interested in the domain of IoT and I’ve never had the chance to work in this area. The second reason was that I wanted to challenge myself and to see if I am able to research on something new and absolutely out of the Ph.D. scope or not. I’ve started working on the INNOVECAR project and working with BOSCH company in Braga, which was involved in the project and provided us the IoT sensors which might be required for the project. During my stay, I’ve worked on the sensor-based data acquisition approaches for road surface condition.

After this great experience, I’ve decided to improve my engineering skills as an engineer in an embedded system which it is one of my research interest. I’ve applied for the embedded system engineer position in the Critical Software S.A. which is one of the most prestigious software companies in Portugal and I’ve started working on Space vehicle embedded software.  At the beginning, it was a big challenge to adapt me from the academic mindset to the new industrial environment and engineering working mode. I was involved in Solar Orbiter project which was a part of the main Solar Orbiter project from European Space Agency.

I’m currently involved as a project engineer in the embedded system team of the Critical Software S.A. and I’m working on providing board support packages (BSPs) for automotive projects for the client such as Continental. In this position, we need to provide the BSPs codes for different types of client’s board in order to work with our own real-time operating system which has been developed by our team.

Na sua opinião como é que a sua experiência no INESC TEC ajudou no novo papel?

In general, I believe that we need to have a strong link to the industry as much as possible. Considering that most of the INESC TEC projects are coming from industry, it helps us to improve our engineering mindset. However, there is always a gap between the academia and industry which needs to be as less as possible.

Na sua opinião, o INESC TEC mudou em quais aspectos desde a sua saída?

I’m not sure!
