President of INESC Porto appointed National Delegate to EC Programme

José Manuel Mendonça, President of INESC Porto and Full Professor at FEUP, was appointed by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education for the position of National Delegate to the NMP Committee (Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and New Production Processes) of the R&TD 7th Framework-Programme (7th FP) of the European Commission (2007-2013).

The Portuguese delegation for the NMP Committee, which also includes Higino Correia of the University of Minho and Luís de Melo of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), will promote the internationalisation of the research activities of the Portuguese scientific community in the area of industrial technologies. Considering that this international expansion is highly important for the country’s progress and that this is an opportunity to access an important amount of available funding for R&TD work in Portugal, the activity of this group will be particularly important.

INESC Porto is proud to announce the nomination of its president for this public service position, which, according to the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the entity responsible for the coordination of the Portuguese participation in the 7th FP, is of extreme importance to the country.
