History of the relationship between the company and INESC TEC

MOG emerged as an INESC TEC’s spin-off. For that reason, INESC TEC has been a crucial partner in the definition and implementation of the company's innovation agenda since its inception. Since then, MOG and INESC TEC have been working together on R&D collaborative projects implementation, have been training highly qualified human resources and have been making the national media sector more dynamic.

Statement about the project

CLOUD SETUP project aims the development of an ingest video platform for media groups in order to detect an advertising segment automatically. Then it should delete or replace that advertising segment by other content. This system should be solid in order to operate within television broadcasters or virtualised in the cloud.

The Mobilizador CHIC project intends to boost the R&D strategy of digital media sector in Portugal by creating new value chains and business models, based on the rapprochement of technological companies of TICE (Centre for Information and Communication Technology and Electronics) sector; with creative companies and entities of National Scientific and Technological System.

CHIC project (Cooperative Holistic view on Internet and Content) is not only crucial to INESC TEC and to MOG, but it is also crucial to this sector. Despite having an internationally recognised quality on the products and services that it creates, Chic project still has weak economic foundations and its partnership with R&D entities is poor. We already achieved one of our main goals by gathering several entities (universities, press, television, telecommunications company, software houses, printing industries and R&D institutions in the fields of multimedia, digital arts, information science, computer science, interactive technology, among others) in the same place. In order to achieve this, it was important to develop activities in collaboration with the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) and especially with the contribution of Professor Pimenta Alves who was responsible for making New European Media more dynamic.

It was an amazing experience. INESC TEC have always tried to understand MOG’s needs, and to identify with MOG’s way of thinking and to address the challenges in the best possible way. This really surprised us in so many cases.

The aim is to continue this close collaboration at different levels. We are trying to have a higher profile on the activities of the NEW Portugal Initiative. Concerning R&D projects, we are perfectly attuned and we will combine forces every time we see an opportunity to do it.
