INESC TEC organises a workshop on narrative extraction from texts

A team of researchers of INESC TEC was responsible for organising the first international workshop on narrative extraction from texts, known as Text2Story’18. The event was held on 26 March in France under the ECIR’18 - 40th European Conference on Information Retrieval.

Around 40 researchers participated in the presentation of six scientific articles of researchers from different countries, specifically, India, USA, Brazil, South Korea and Hungary. They also attended the presentations of two keynote speakers, Eric Gaussier (Université Grenole Alpes) and Udo Kruschwitz (University of Essex). The workshop aimed to foster the discussion of recent advances in the development and improvement of algorithms capable of identifying, interpreting and relating the different elements of a narrative, thus enabling the understanding of the storyline of an event.

Alípio M. Jorge and Ricardo Campos (LIAAD - Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Laboratory) and Sérgio Nunes (CSIG - Centre for Information and Computer Graphics Systems), from INESC TEC, and Adam Jatowt (from Kyoto University, Japan) were the ones responsible for the organisation.

Other members from LIAAD, namely João Paulo Cordeiro and Conceição Rocha (Proceedings Chairs), Vítor Mangaravite (Publicity Chair) and Arian Pasquali (Web Chair) also helped to organise the workshop.
