INESC TEC team in tests in Greece

Within the framework of SUNNY, a team of five INESC TEC’s researchers was present in Chania, Greece, between 25 and 30 March, in a practical exercise that allowed to test the level of integration of the on-board sensory data processing systems and communications developed at INESC TEC in some of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that are part of project SUNNY. 

The SUNNY project – Smart Unattended Airborne Sensor Network for Detection of Vessels Used for Cross Border Crime and Irregular Entry - intends to develop and integrate innovative solutions for intelligent surveillance of maritime borders in order to detect crossing and illegal entry using a heterogeneous network of sensors carried by UAVs. This system will provide greater and more efficient border surveillance capabilities by being able to monitor large maritime border areas by functioning in a decentralised manner and minimizing human intervention in supervision.

The SUNNY project team includes Hugo Silva, Guilherme Amaral, Sara Costa and João Pedro Ribeiro of the Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS) and Hélder Fontes of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM).
