Limelight
The Limelight Series
In a universe of over 800 employees, there are many months in which the performance of more than one collaborator is worthy of note in the “Limelight” section. Proof of that is that oftentimes we have more than one person nominated. For that reason, we decided to change the rules: as of edition No. 144, BIP will highlight all nominees each month, and all will be equal in merit.
Jorge Pereira – CPES (May)
The Coordinator of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES)* stated: “Jorge Pereira has been working at INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) – former Power Systems Unit – since 1991, where he coordinates the Grid Management Systems (DMS/EMS) area and is in charge of maintaining a long-lasting collaboration with EFACEC (since 1997), namely to develop modules for DMS and EMS systems.
More recently, more specifically in April, other than performing all his usual tasks, Jorge participated actively in European project Sustainable and he is also leading project SCADA-BT (with EDP and EFACEC as partners). For both projects, Jorge has designed and implemented methodologies to monitor and operate power grids under the smart grids paradigm. This was a demanding task and he delivered high-quality with extreme dedication.”
Susana Silva, CAP (June)
The Coordinators of the Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP)** stated: “Susana Silva has been awarded for her doctoral dissertation in which she developed new, special optical fibre sensors, particularly to detect hydrogen. This award is an external recognition of her performance throughout her thesis, as well as her commitment to projects in this area. This nomination to the “Limelight” section does not only make justice to her work, but we hope that it can lead to further responsibilities and challenges.”
Duarte Viveiros, CAP (June)
The Coordinators of the Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) stated: “Under the supervision of João Ferreira, Duarte Viveiros has been implementing an integrated solution to monitor coal waste piles in S. Pedro da Cova, Portugal, as part of project ECOAL-MGT. For his commitment in this integration phase, which helped overcome legal, bureaucratic and technical obstacles, he was awarded with “SPIE’s Student Best Paper Award” last May. This just shows that his future is promising, and we want to acknowledge his work with this nomination.”
João Barbosa, CAP (June)
The Coordinators of the Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) stated: “João Barbosa has had an extraordinary performance, which was confirmed by the honourable mention received at the 4th PYCheM. His work as part of project SNIFFER has also been acknowledged at the six-monthly project meeting, which took place earlier this month in Sweden. With this nomination, we want to encourage the entire group developing chemical sensors.”
