INESC TEC R&D Units have been renamed
Eight INESC TEC R&D Units at have recently been renamed and are now called Centres or Laboratories. The names of the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER), the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD), the Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS), the High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLAB) and the Research Centre in Real-Time and Embedded Computing Systems (CISTER) remain unchanged.
The renaming procedure is a response to the regulations of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), which identify INESC TEC as a Unit of the Portuguese Science and Technology System, and therefore it was unclear that there were R&D Units within the INESC TEC Unit. The new names were progressively implemented by the end of June, and all institutional material and platforms should refer to the new names, as follows:
- CESE – Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (former UESP – Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit)
- CAP – Centre for Applied Photonics (former UOSE – Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit)
- CITE – Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (former UITT – Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit)
- CTM – Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (former UTM – Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit)
- CPES – Centre for Power and Energy Systems (former USE – Power Systems Unit)
- CROB – Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (former ROBIS – Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit)
- CSIG – Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (former USIG – Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit)
- CEGI – Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (former UGEI - Industrial Engineering and Management Unit).
In order to facilitate the transition to the new names, this edition of BIP will include a footnote containing the former names of the Centres.
