Federal University of Technology of Paraná joins the INESC Brazil network
The Federal University of Technology of Paraná (UTFPR) is the most recent Brazilian University to join the INESC Brazil network, a cooperation network managed by INESC R&D Brazil.
The history of UTFPR started in 1909, with the creation of the Escolas de Aprendizes Artífices (apprenticeship schools) in several Brazilian state capitals. In 1974, the University created the first short degrees in Operations Engineering (Construction and Electricity), and today the UTFPR is a predominantly technological institution, and one of the largest engineering schools in the country.
With faculty qualified in different areas of expertise, the UTFPR offers almost one hundred degrees in different areas of engineering and 28 postgraduate programmes (PhDs and MScs) in 13 campi located in strategic regions of the state of Paraná.
There are various research labs at the university, two of which are currently working with INESC R&D Brazil: the Laboratory of Telecommunication Systems (LabSC), which works on telecommunications, wireless networks and computing; and the Laboratory of Spatial Analysis and Geostatistical Modelling (LEMOG), which works on modelling and quantification of environmental quantities. It is expected that in the near future other labs can work in joint research projects with INESC R&D Brazil.
