British ambassador visits INESC Porto
Alexander Elis, British ambassador in Portugal, visited INESC Porto on 18 November. The ambassador was welcomed by INESC Porto’s President, José Manuel Mendonça, who presented the institution, its main activities and projects, as well as the strategic goals for the next years.
Afterwards, there was a visit to INESC Porto’s R&D Units. Here, Alexander Elis had the opportunity to witness in loco the work developed in all of the institution’s areas of activity: Telecommunications and Multimedia, Power Systems, Manufacturing Systems, Information and Communication Systems, and Optoelectronics.
The reason behind this visit was Tomorrow Options, a spin-off incubated and co-financed by INESC Porto that develops medical devices. Less than two years after its foundation, the company is now preparing to enter the British market and to invest in the UK, and that drew the attention of the British Embassy. The ambassador had the opportunity to get to know the work carried out at the institution and congratulate the Board for the viability of the projects that the institution supports.
This is once again proof that INESC Porto’s presence in the international markets is increasing.
