USE prepares new stage of Wind Production Forecast project
The Power Systems Unit (USE) has signed a contract for the new stage of the Wind Production Forecast project with the EPREV consortium, together with INEGI, the Centre for Wind Energy and Atmospheric Flows from FEUP (CEsA) and the Centre of Geophysics of the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon (CGUL). For this, USE had the support of the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP).
The work for this stage of the project has already started. The operation of a set of applications is currently taking place and the goal is to make an online forecast of wind-based power for timelines up to 72 hours, for 20 wind parks in Portugal.
At this stage of the project, the forecast system will be installed in a room inside the new INEGI building, at the campus of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. On the other hand, the wind forecast module (mesoscale modelling) will be operating from the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon.
