Digitópia Project obtains Honourable Mention in Future Places festival

The Digitópia project - Platform for the Development of Digital Music Communities got an honourable mention at the Future Places festival that took place last October, in the city of Porto. This project was the result of a partnership between the Casa da Música concert hall, INESC Porto, the Escola Superior de Música e de Artes do Espectáculo (School of Music and Performing Arts) and the  Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

The project consists of a platform that was recently launched at the Casa da Música for the creation of collaborative music. The aim is to analyse how the growing tendency for free access to musical contents and software can affect the generalised creation of music and design of music software. At the same time, it contributes to the emergence of multicultural communities of music creators and fans.

The aim with this project is to promote a new generation of musicians, encouraging the creation of music pieces through software, by providing them with the means to an informal development of competences.

Future Places is a place for research and experimentation where the aim is to contribute to the discussion on how digital media, which have been continuously transforming communication, creativity and identity at a global level, can promote cultural and social development at a local level.

The first edition of the Future Places Festival took place in the context of the UTAustin-Portugal Programme and it has marked the beginning of a joint discussion, gathering a set of national and international experts.
