INESC TEC organises course on Electric Mobility

INESC Porto, the coordinating entity of INESC TEC Associate Laboratory, organised an advanced training course on electric mobility: “Impact of Large Scale Deployment of Electric Mobility in Power System Operation and Planning”. The course took place between 3rd and 4th October and was organised as part of the EES-UETP (Electric Energy Systems – University Enterprise Training Partnership) consortium’s advanced training programme.

The topics covered during the course included the behaviour of electric vehicle owners, control strategies for electric vehicles, the impact of electric vehicles on the electrical energy system in steady state and dynamic loading conditions, regulatory solutions and the most recent developments in state-of-the-art technology for rapid charging.

Collaborators from the Power Systems Unit (USE) at INESC Porto presented their work on the integration of electric vehicles in electrical energy grids along with researchers from the ETH Zurich (Switzerland), TU Berlin (Germany), the University of Comillas (Spain) and representatives from industry, such as EFACEC (Portugal), Ricardo (United Kingdom) and Inteli (Portugal).

Seventeen instructors took part in the course, each with different areas of interest relating to smart grids and electric vehicles. The participants came from universities in Spain, Finland, Switzerland and companies, such as EDP-Distribuição (the Portuguese Electrical Energy company), ENEL (the Italian Electrical Energy company) and regulating authorities, such as ERSE (the Portuguese Energy Services Regulatory Authority).
