LIAAD/INESC TEC researcher elected President of IASC

Paula Brito, a researcher at the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD/INESC TEC), was recently elected the President-Elect of the International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC), part of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), for 2011-2013, and will assume the role of president for 2013-2015.

In addition to being a researcher at LIAAD/INESC TEC, Paula Brito is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Porto (FEP) and has published articles on statistics and data analysis.

IASC aims to promote interest in Computational Statistics internationally and encourage technical and scientific knowledge exchange through meetings for statisticians, IT professionals, organisations, institutions, government entities and the general public.

IASC publishes the Journal Computational Statistics & Data Analysis and organises its own conferences – the IASC World Conferences, COMPSTAT in Europe (that took place at the FEP in 2008), the ARS Conferences on Statistical Computing in Asia and Summer Schools and sessions in the ISI (International Statistical Institute) conferences.
