Open Day CTM dedicated to Artificial Intelligence

On 11 May took place the 7th edition of the Open Day of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

This year’s edition was dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of Telecommunications and Multimedia. Arlindo Oliveira, AI specialist and author of the book "The Digital Mind: How Science is Redefining Humanity”, was the keynote speaker with a presentation that introduced the debate on the main scientific challenges and opportunities that the continuous AI advances bring to Telecommunications and Multimedia.

The panel session, with the RTP journalist Mário Augusto as moderator, was attended by Arlindo Oliveira (President of IST) Jorge Moreira (TEKEVER), Pedro Ferreira (STRDEO), Hélder Oliveira (INESC TEC) and João Canas Ferreira (INESC TEC). Manuel Ricardo, coordinator of CTM was responsible for closing the session.

The nearly 200 participants also had the opportunity to visit the demonstrators session, a technological exhibition of the most important results of the several research projects and partnerships of INESC TEC, displaying several prototypes of each of the main areas of CTM, namely in Telecommunications, Digital Media, Health, Energy, Sea and Agri-food.

This initiative of CTM aims to promote and disseminate the scientific activities of its four main research areas - Optical and Electronic Technologies, Wireless Networks, Communications and Multimedia Technologies, and Information Processing and Pattern Recognition - and to strengthen the link with the academy and industry, seeking to identify potential synergies and establish future partnerships.

Nuno Almeida, Joana Tavares, Pedro Silva and Tiago Soares da Costa were responsible for the organisation of this edition.
