INESC TEC participates in new European project associated with digital skills

INESC TEC participates in new European project associated with digital skills

DIVA, the new European project with INESC TEC’s cooperation, aims to implement the use of digital technologies in agriculture, agroofood, forestry and environment sectors. It was one of the four projects approved in more than 80 submitted applications. The kickoff meeting took place on 12 April in Brussels, in which all partners involved were present.

The DIVA project - Boosting innovative DIgitech Value chains for Agrofood, forestry and environment - aims at promoting the development and the use of new digital technologies with applications to the agrofood, forestry and environment sectors. The focus is on digital marketplaces, big data and cloud, robotics and artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, IoT and digital/electronic/photonic components.

Through international partnerships, DIVA intends to create digital solutions for these sectors, incorporating different digital skills in their fields of action.

The role of INESC TEC in this project includes the development of a trend map for the fields of action mentioned above creating a digital platform and the organisation of national and international events as tools to support displaying of challenges, which in turn can provide solutions to the problems encountered. In the end, there will be a design of a value chain for the work of these sectors, which will put into practice the answers collected in the first phase.

The operation of this project is unique because it intends to align the market needs with the know-how of companies, bringing together research, technology and development players with partners from different sectors. Some of the innovative services to be provided, such as the development of new ideas, can arise from skills developed by European SMEs, with tasks such as business model development, client meetings, gathering investors and design of financial and communication plans.

Besides INESC TEC, the consortium of DIVA is composed of nine partners from six European countries namely: AGRI SUD-OUEST INNOVATION (France), Digital Place (France), CRPV - Crop Production Research Centre (Italy), H- Farm (Italy), CTA - Technological Corporation of Andalusia (Spain), AMETIC - Association of Electronics, Information and Communications Technologies, Telecommunications (Spain), INOVISA (Portugal), GRNET (Greece) and TEAGASC (Ireland).

The team from INESC TEC, which is leader of the first work package, are Alexandra Xavier and Sara Neves from the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE); Alexandra Marques from the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE); and Filipe Neves dos Santos from the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS).

This project is part of the European funding H2020 ending in March 2021.
