INESC TEC organises event dedicated to energy with the stamp of European Commission
Within the framework of InteGrid project, INESC TEC and EDP Distribuição joined the activities promoted by the European Commission entitled “Energy Days”. The two institutions are organising an event, which will take place on 27 June in Lisbon that aims at bringing together Portuguese SME from the largest European energy companies and research institutions as well as sharing with the project’s stakeholders the results that were achieved and the other ones that are still in development. The event “From Intelligent Energy Solutions to Disruptive Business Models” will take place at EDP headquarters in Avenida 24 de julho (Lisbon) at 10 a.m.
But afterall what are the “Energy Days”? Energy Days are events that take place between May and June and aim to show the importance of sustainable energy to citizens and industry. They are part of the Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2018 of the European Union.
One distinctive factor of this event is the competition that will give Portuguese SME the opportunity to present technological solutions in one of the three areas: electric vehicle recharging and fleet management, smart grids technologies and renewable energy. In order to present technological solutions in the energy field, you just need to apply until 12 June at: http://integrid-energydays.inesctec.pt/#shapely_home_contact-4.
The selected companies will have the opportunity to make a 10 minutes presentation in the afternoon of 27 June. The jury will be composed by REN, General Electric, SAP or CyberGrid. The Portuguese Universities will also present their R&D results. Some of the goals of this competition are establishing future business partnerships and the technology transfer between academia and industry.
The companies that are going to participate in the pitch will have the opportunity to establish international contacts in order to promote the integration of future applications for EC funds of the Programme Horizon 2020.
According to Ricardo Bessa, senior researcher from INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) and technical coordinator of InteGrid project “events of this magnitude contribute to give Portugal an image of a country that invests in knowledge and technology to have a more sustainable electrical system”.
The event will last all day, starting at 10 a.m. with the presentation of the InteGrid project by EDP Distribuição.
In the morning, it will also be possible to discuss the new business models for smart grids and the energy distributors (University of Comillas, Spain) in order to make an analysis on energy for smart grids and power management (INESC TEC, Portugal), as well as to discuss the consumer engagement and the behavioural demand response (KTH, Sweden).
Also on the agenda are live demonstrations of tools developed by General Electric, CyberGrid, SAP, INESC TEC and Águas do Tejo Atlântico under the InteGrid project.
Jorge Vasconcelos from NEWES (New Energy Solutions) is the keynote speaker in a session that starts at 2 p.m. Right after that, there will also be a debate moderated by EDP Distribuição and attended by REN, Labelec, the Portuguese Association for the major energy-consuming users and ERSE.
The pitches will close the session, but their preparation started well before the sessions.
The European project InteGrid now active for about a year and has EUR 15M available to be used so that three European countries can enhance their smart power grids. In order to do so, the project will set up five smart grids demonstrators - three in Portugal, one in Sweden and one in Slovenia. INESC TEC is one of the fourteen partners involved in the project through their Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES).
The event “From intelligent energy solutions to disruptive business models” is free but requires mandatory registration: integrid-energydays.inesctec.pt.
