Where are you now?

Every month INESC TEC sends highly qualified individuals into the market. These individuals often then go on to occupy important positions in some of the best national and international companies or they opt to form spin-offs. As the best way to perform technology transfer is through individuals, this section is dedicated to collaborators that trained at INESC TEC and now star in other companies and institutions.

Nuno Trindade, Bosch – Building Technologies BV, Project Manager – Business Unit

  • Year when you began working at INESC TEC and when you left: 2009-2010
  • Centre at INESC TEC where you worked: CESE - Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering
  • Names of projects you were involved in: SC Inov; WFS Lean; LÚCIOS XXI

Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC

Since I left INESC TEC, I have become a collaborator of the Bosch group in the Building Technologies Division, previously known as Security Systems. The name change of this division of Bosch illustrates the mission and the vision of the company that, more than just developing security products and systems such as security cameras, evacuation or fire detection systems, it also aims to develop more comprehensive and smart solutions usually for large-scale buildings (such as airports, roads, public transport stations) and for critical buildings in terms of security (such as prisons, oil refineries, potentially explosive environments).

I joined the Bosch group immediately after having completed a year in the consultancy group of CESE (previous UESP), at the time for the Continuous Improvement Department of Bosch in the Security Systems Division in Ovar. After five years and after being part of several departments within the company, I had the opportunity to make an international assignment in the Netherlands, at the headquarters of the Video Systems Business Unit, where I was the representative of the manufacturing in the teams responsible for the development of new video products and surveillance systems. Currently, I am responsible for the project management of the Business Unit Security, developing projects for key customers.

The BOSCH culture is strongly oriented towards research and development, as it happens in INESC TEC. As in INESC TEC, the Building Technologies Division has all its technological know-how as the differentiation factor, where the electronics and the software development are clearly pronounced, given the nature of all its products and services. Just like INESC TEC, the Bosch Building Technologies tries to grasp the challenges of smart cities and the I4.0.

In your opinion how did your time at INESC TEC help you in your new role?

The experience at INESC TEC helped me, above all else, to think about specific and well-defined problems. This has been really helpful in my professional life, namely to better decide where and how to invest my energy.

In your opinion, how  has INESC TEC changed since you left?

I believe that INESC TEC is leading the way in the connection of three major pillars of the economy: Education, Technology (application or development) and Industry. INESC TEC has been strengthening the integration process of the several institutions involved in this triangle.
