INESC TEC at the “Innovation Path” of the Águas do Tejo Atlântico

INESC TEC was once again present at the "Innovation Path" event, organised by the Águas do Tejo Atlântico, in a demonstration and debate with the scientific community about the future and the innovation in the waste water sector - since its treatment to its recycling, monitoring and the impact of the climate changes.

This years' edition took place once again in the Alcântara Water Factory on 26 September. From the agenda, we can highlight themes like “Entrepreneurship and the role of the startups on Innovation” which had the participation of Ricardo Bessa, assistant coordinator of INESC TEC's Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) as one of the speakers. The event also served as stage for the signature of a collaboration protocol between INESC TEC and the Águas do Tejo Atlântico, with Luis Seca representing INESC TEC's board. The collaboration protocol aims to promote the joint action and activities that focus on themes like efficiency and energy optimisation, electric mobility, cybersecurity, knowledge extraction from data, among others.

Among other guests, we highlight João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Minister of Environment who was present at the opening session and Carlos Martins, Secretary of State of Environment, who was one of the speakers of the event.

Some projects of two centres of INESC TEC - CPES and the Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS) - were present in the Innovation Path '18, in an exhibition available throughout the entire day. This was the case of projects InteGrid and GReSBAs, in the energy field, or UNEXMIN in the robotics field. Technologies developed for specific INESC TEC's partners, like the drone for the inspection of assets in the electricity sector, developed for EDP Labelec, were also present.

Project Integrid is currently testing innovative solutions for smart grids regarding their consumption, storage and production, in industrial and domestic contexts. As for Project GReSBAs, it installed demonstrators both in Portugal and in Turkey with automation systems for monitoring energy consumption, with the goal of teaching and reeducating behaviours, through means of awareness actions and active participation in mini games and quizzes. The robot developed under the UNEXMIN project aims to explore flooded mines, more precisely in Viseu (Portugal), Kaatiala (Finland) and Idrija (Slovenia).

Besides the exhibition of research projects, there were also networking sessions as well as the award of the “Desafio da Inovação” 2018 (in English Innovation Challenge '18) prizes.
