INESC TEC in the Summer Innovation Campus in Vila Real
The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) promoted the first edition of the Summer Innovation Campus, an event carried out under the INOV@UTAD project, which had the participation of INESC TEC.
The initiative took place on 26 and 27 September in the campus of UTAD in Vila Real. For the technology exhibition, which is an integral part of the event, INESC TEC prepared a space dedicated to the presentation of the MASSIVE Virtual Reality Laboratory of the Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), the most advanced in the Iberian Peninsula in this area. In the same space, the ROMOVI - Modular and cooperative robot for vineyards of hillsides - project of the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS) was also presented.
MASSIVE is a laboratory that is characterised by studying the stimulation of the 5 senses in virtual reality applications, not only related to the fundamental research, but also related to an application level. In this event, the researchers Maximino Bessa, Miguel Melo, David Narciso, Pedro Monteiro, Hugo Coelho, Manuel Pinto and Guilherme Gonçalves of CSIG presented virtual reality demonstrations such as the reconstruction of a viewpoint between Régua and Pinhão, based on 3D photos.
The Summer Innovation Campus is a comprehensive event of innovation and technology transfer, aiming at merging the academia with the market, in order to create synergies that promote the innovation and the entrepreneurship, and to contribute to the economic development of the region.
Within the range of activities, there are plenary sessions, thematic workshops in the several areas related to innovation, a georeferencing game, presentation of ideas competitions, an Inov @ UTAD Hackathon, a Code Battle, a technology exhibition called Innovation Market, a street food area, among others.
Since 2012, UTAD has been one of INESC TEC’s privileged partners with which a multidisciplinary partnership has been developed in order to implement a science and technology network in the northern region.
