UESP starts "COORDINATOR" European project
The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) started working on the COORDINATOR project last June. The intention with this project is to develop high performance hybrid algorithms to manage the production of electricity on the short term, taking into consideration thermal, hydro and wind resources.
In a first stage, the researchers will develop hybrid algorithms, incorporating heuristic techniques and exact algorithms to manage the production of thermal generators (Unit Commitment). In a second stage, the researchers will study models that enable an integrated management of thermal and hydro resources. Lastly, new alternative ways to model wind power and its integration in the hidro-thermal model will also be studied.
The project has a 28-month duration and is led by Ana Viana (researcher at UESP), with the participation of Jorge Pinho de Sousa (manager of that Unit), Manuel Matos, (manager of the Power Systems Unit - USE) and Andrea Lodi, researcher at the University of Bologna, Italy.
