UOSE researcher awarded by the International Society for Optical Engineering
Luís Fernandes, researcher at the Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE) and PhD student at the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP), received a three thousand dollar award from the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE).
Ireneu Dias, assistant manager of UOSE, describes this type of award as being “extremely competitive”, representing “an acknowledgement of the researcher’s work within his doctoral programme”.
Luís Fernandes, the researcher chosen for the February Limelight section is carrying his doctoral programme in a partnership with the University of Toronto, Canada, and is supervised by Paulo Marques (UOSE/FCUP), Peter Herman and Stewart Aitchison of the University of de Toronto.
SPIE is a worldwide renowned international society in the areas of Optical Engineering and Photonics. Established in 1955 to advance light-based technologies, SPIE serves more than 180,000 constituents from 168 countries, advancing emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth. SPIE annually organizes and sponsors approximately 25 major technical forums, exhibitions and education programs in North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. The EWOFS 2010 Conference, organized this year by UOSE, is one of those events.
