UESP starts working on "CORENET" European project
The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) started working, in June, on a new European project – the Customer-oriented and eco-friendly networks for healthy fashionable goods (CORENET).
The aim with this project is to provide high quality clothing and footwear items that are functional and eco compatible, with affordable prices. At the same time, the intention is to contemplate the needs of a large number of European citizens, as well as other specific groups, such as the elderly and people suffering from obesity or diabetes.
CORENET will make it possible to strengthen the market share of companies in the textile, clothing and footwear sectors with relevant social niches, offering them custom-made and “healthy” items. In order to design, develop, produce and distribute small orders, a new framework and new components will be developed for a new collaborative network, taking into consideration ecological and cost efficiency, thus enabling a production according to demand. Afterwards, tests and demonstrations in pilots will be developed in an industrial environment, thus confirming the potential of the new collaborative and sustainable approach between sectors.
Américo Azevedo is the researcher from UESP responsible for this project. Together with João Bastos, he represented INESC Porto at the project’s Kickoff Meeting in Brussels on 14 June. The CORENET team also includes António Almeida from the same Unit. Tomorrow Options, a spin-off company from INESC Porto/FEUP, is the other Portuguese partner in this project.
