Have your say

"(...) all, without exception, say that this was an incredibly positive step. The group is also growing in numbers and will soon have a dimension that we would have hardly imagined if it were not for INESC Porto.", António Paulo Moreira

"In this Unit, we can always hear, simultaneously, conversations in a pretty strange dialect that sounds like Russian! Expressions like “Dobro jutro” and “Kako si” are regularly heard", Bernardo Silva

INESC Porto concludes study for the dynamic analysis of Porto Santo’s electrical system

The Power Systems Unit (USE) has been studying the dynamic behaviour of electrical systems in the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo, following the significant increase in renewable generation (wind and solar photovoltaic power) forecasted for short-term in these islands, having concluded the part of the study referring to Porto Santo.

The aim with this study consisted of evaluating the impact on the system’s operation that the installation, in May 2010, of a high component of solar photovoltaic power production would have. The studies included an assessment of the need to use energy storage devices to compensate for the high variations that have been occurring, in this island, in this type of renewable production.

Helena Vasconcelos and João Abel Peças Lopes are the members from USE involved in this project.
